Customer: My Calico 6 year old (Cleo) has coughing spells once

Customer Question

Customer: My Calico 6 year old (Cleo) has coughing spells once or sometimes twice a day. Sometimes she will go without coughing a few days before it starts again. She eats well, and does not have any problems using the litter box. She sleeps all night without any problems. Is there anything I cam give Her that may help her? Sometimes she will go 2 or 3 days without coughing. Thanks for any suggestions. Chuck.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Veterinarian will know how to help Chuck. Anything else I can tell the Veterinarian before I connect you two?
Customer: Only that I had Cleo about two or three years before she started coughing. Other then that, She seems to be normal.
JA: I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Veterinarian about your situation and connect you two.

Chronically coughing cats are usually asthmatic which is treated with glucocorticosteroid such as prednisolone +/- a bronchodilator. Cats that acutley cough but remiss within 1-3 weeks are usually infected with the feline herpesvirus (FHV-1). There's nothing of value for asthmatic cats over the counter, Chuck. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
