Ciprofloxacin is safe at 9-12 mg/lb orally once daily but this antibiotic's relatively low oral bioavailability in cats and the availability of other approved fluoroquinolone drugs for oral administration makes it best reserved for use when an intravenous fluoroquinolone is indicated. In most cases, hematuria at her advanced age represents a geriatric bacterial (E. coli, usually) infection most often responsive to the commonly prescribed amoxicillin/clavulanate (Clavamox) dosed for as little as a week. Transitional cell carcinoma of her bladder/urethra as well as uroliths (urinary stones) are important differential diagnoses at 18 years of age. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
