Customer Question

I had a cat (not quite 1 yrs old) give birth Tuesday @ 7:30 am, to what appears to be a full size kitten. It had no hair & did not live. I don't know if it was born dead or died within the 10 minutes I saw her last. How can I know if she has more kittens? Can she still deliver them? She is still spotting blood

Hello, this is Dr.Jess. I am sorry to hear about your kitty! So it sounds like 24 hours have passed since this happened? The safest thing to do would be to have her vet take an x-ray to check and be sure there aren't any more kittens present, especially if we didn't know ahead of time how many would be born. It can be normal to have some spotting of red or brownish discharge from the vagina for a few weeks after birth, but since we aren't sure what is going on with her (are there more kittens still there, etc.), then the safest thing would be an exam and an x-ray!
