My cat just got bitten by my dog-I want to give the cat some

Customer Question

My cat just got bitten by my dog-I want to give the cat some pain reliever but I have only Carprofen (100mg) for the dogs in the house. Is it okay to give a cat a small amount of carprofen?

I am sorry to hear about your cat being bitten. My name is Rebecca. I am a veternarian and will do my best to help.

No, it is not safe to give carprofen to cats. It would be safer to give 1/2 of a baby aspirin or low dose aspirin. If you give aspirin, only repeat it once every 3 to 4 days. Do not give Tylenol, Aleve or Advil to cats either.

Let me know what else I can answer or help with and how she is doing.

Carprofen can damage the kidneys; I just can't recommend giving it in any dose.
