Customer Question

My cat Maggie is almost 3. She normally had a high pitched squeaky meow and in the last 2 days her meow sounds like a mature cat - why does this happen? Could she be sick or just getting older?

A change in vocalization is consistent with laryngitis - just as in us. The feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) is often incriminated and would be supported if you're also seeing a conjunctivitis, sneezing, and/or nasal discharge. Those other symptoms need not appear, however, with FHV-1. Most cats will remiss unaided within 1-3 weeks from FHV-1. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
