My cat has an irritated eye. Was wondering if I could use gentamicin sulfate 0.3% ophthalmic ointment on him. Thanks

Hello. Thanks for writing in. My name is***** and I would be happy to help you. Gentamicin eye medication is usually safe to use on cats. We do use it in some cat eye problems. It is off labeled use, but it is typically safe. If there are some underlying kidney problems, I may avoid it. Otherwise, it should be okay. If not doing better in a couple days, though, your vet needs to examine it. Most eye problems in cats are herpes related, so sometimes other medications may be needed.
