Last night my 7yr old 6.5lb pound cat got one of my Cymbalta

Customer Question

Last night my 7yr old 6.5lb pound cat got one of my Cymbalta 60 mg capsule and chewed it up. I found the chewed capsule and some of the white time released parts on the carpet,
She is acting fine, eating moving around, wanted treats when I left for work. I don't see where she has throw up. but I didn't check the whole house. Please give me any info you can, My vet didn't know the element make up of the drug.

If Ginger has remained well, she'll continue to be well. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is one of the antidepressants similar to Effexor (venalfaxine) which usually causes only sedation in our pets. Sedation can arise at doses as small as 0.5 mg/lb but at 5 mg/lb we can see tremors and as the dose increases agitation, aggression, panting, tachycardia (increased heart rate), drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures. Because Ginger remained well, it's evident to me that she didn't ingest an appreciable amount of this drug.
