Customer Question

I have a cat with recent weight loss (labs all normal), seems to be less interactive (avoiing contact) and now we are noticing bad breath. Any ideas on what may be going on?

I am sorry to hear about this concern.

Absolutely, must make sure the lab test included a urine test!

Urinary tract infections are very common in female cats, and even if not straining, can conribute to these other symptoms.

Also, a fecal test would be advised to rule-out parasite issues. Not worms, but giardia or coccidia infection.

Bad breath could also result from an oral infection or a tooth root abscess. So, the mouth may need to be thoroughly examined.

Lastly, the diet. Even if a high quality food, the vet should consider changing all the food being ingested, in case something currently being ingested is contributing to the problem.

Hope that information helps

Thank you. She now is tachypneic and with a bit of a cough. Hasn't eaten much if anything over last 2 days and having very little uop and only 1BM since Thursday. Taking her in to the vet first thing in the morning. I'm really worried.

Understood. Yes, concerned about the overallf quality of life based on information provided. Wish I had some alternative options for at home therapy to help with condition, but anything would be more harm than good.

I will pray or a speedy recovery and hopefully a basic test or two can quickly get this figured out.
