Customer Question

My cat is straining in the litter box and yowling. I can't tell if he's trying to urinate or defecate based on his posture, so I'm not sure if it's constipation or a urinary issue. Also not sure if it's a critical emergency or something that can wait until the vet's office opens.

Hello and welcome, I am Dr. B.

I am very sorry there wasn't an expert online when you posted your question. Still I do want to leave a note for you. If you are in any doubt he cannot pass urine, this is an emergency. Urinary blockage of the male cat can lead to serious damage and even be fatal if left. So based on his signs this would be a real worry and he should be seen without delay.

Please take care,

Dr. B.
