My cat has feline acne on her chin, but now I am seeing a black

Customer Question

my cat has feline acne on her chin, but now I am seeing a black rough area on each ear tip, also a rough patch on her back towards the tail with black dots similar to flea dirt, she has been treated for fleas but the areas are still there. what can this be?

Hello. Thanks for the question. I would take some of these black dots and wet them down with water on a paper towel. If they turn red, then that confirms that it is flea dirt. Fleas can take months to fully treat and resolve. If you're not using topical preventatives and decontaminating the environment, they can recur. If it's not flea dirt, then it may be an auto-immune skin disease- similar to feline acne. In that case, I would use steroids (Prednisolone) to treat. I also like to do a round of antibiotics in case of any secondary staph infections. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
