Customer Question

My 5 yr old spayed cat disappeared 7/5 & returned safely 7/11. She ate, drank & slept excessively the 1st 48-72h (as to be expected). Spent the next few days staying indoors. Explored outside briefly on day 6 of her return. But now has slept all of day 8 into day 9. And I mean slept 4h on the couch, ate very briefly then slept 10 more on the floor in the LR & quietly slipped upstairs without any interaction & has spent the 12 overnight hours under the bed. She didn't eat or drink all night

Aloha! You're speaking with Dr. Michael Salkin
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. She apparently has recrudesced - relapsed without cure in between events. We don't expect such lethargy this late after her return - particularly because she had remissed so nicely after her initially reappearing. Her sleeping and inappetence are important symptoms but they're not pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one disorder and so it would be prudent to have her vet perform a thorough physical exam including diagnostics in the form of blood and urine tests. Imaging in the form of X-rays or ultrasound might be suggested as well predicated upon the findings in her exam.
