My 5 month old foster kitten weighs only 2.7 pounds. His two

Customer Question

My 5 month old foster kitten weighs only 2.7 pounds. His two siblings were adopted out when they reached 2 ½ pounds at 9 weeks. He was one of the larger kittens of the group when I got them at 4 weeks, but has not grown much since. Sibling tested negative for Felv/FIV and he has been de-wormed. He eats grain free wet food (Blue) and I free feed dry. After eating I can hear his tummy rumbling and sometimes burps like he has acid reflux. He plays and acts normally, but once in a while he throws up large amounts of liquid. My vet says “he’s not a normal kitten and is not ready for adoption at this time” but really doesn’t know why he is not growing. If he has acid reflux nothing can be given to him until he reaches 4 to 5 pounds. I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.
Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner. If you would still like assistance, can you tell me:
What are his stools like? Firm, soft, diarrhea?
Has his vet done any fecal or blood testing on Journey?
Does he have a good appetite?
Is he FIV negative (since this can vary in a litter)?
Was he tested for FIP/corona virus?
