Hello, I'm Dr. Deb. I'll do my best to help you today.
Gravol or Dimenhydrinate can be given to cats and is often a drug I recommend when motion sickness issues are present.
The dose for the average 10 -11 pound cat would be 1/4th-1/2 of a 50 mg tablet about 1 hour before travel.
The effects tend to last about 8 hours.
Most cats tolerate this drug well but common side effects which might be seen in addition to lethargy include diarrhea, vomiting or anorexia (although these aren't as common as sedation).
I usually suggest that owners do a trial run at home if at all possible to determine how well their cat tolerates the drug so there are no surprises once you're in the car.
I hope this helps. Deb
