Customer Question

Hello our 11 week old kitten died suddenly yesterday .. When i got home she was still warm, she had a little blood coming from her mouth not very bright in colour .. We are devestated just wondering if you would have any suggestions as to what could have caused her sudden death please?

Hi there. I'm so sorry about your kitten...It's difficult to say given it appears that she was previously healthy with no signs of problems.. In situations like this, I would suspect a fatal injury (such as chewing on an electrical cord, which would explain blood in the nose - electrical shock causes lung damage) or a congenital problem (i.e. a birth defect), such as heart disease, for example. Kittens are curious little creatures, so injury seems more likely... This must have been so traumatic for you to find her. We often don't find out what causes acute death like this, but you could take her for an autopsy, which could help find some closure...
