Customer Question

I have a gray cat with some caramell spots. Should her GUMS be gray-ish too? She keeps chewing on boxes paper etc. She has an enflamed lip. Any help would be appreciated. She just turned 5. Rescue cat eats and drinks good.

Hello, I'm Dr Gary. I've been practicing veterinary medicine since 2007. I look forward to helping with your questions/ concerns.
Cats with heavier pigmented areas on the skin/ fur will also often times have pigmentation on the gums. This can give them a black to blue to gray look. The actual gums and tongue will still be pink where it's not pigmented.
These little oral lesions from chewing on boxes will usually heal on their own. I would not use any topical antibiotic or peroxide, as that can upset the stomach and cause vomiting. I would just let them heal on their own.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the info. Do u think I should see if she needs a tooth cleaning if she keeps chewing and cutting herself.

That wouldn't be a bad idea, to do a good oral exam. If there is a tooth root abscess, it could explain the wanting to chew; if this is a new problem.
