Customer Question

Please, my cat just came in from outside and something is terribly wrong. He was gone all day and when he came in he is acting drunk and his pupils are huge!

Hello, I'm Dr Gary. I've been practicing veterinary medicine since 2007. I look forward to helping with your questions/ concerns.
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I would take him to an ER vet right now and get some bloodwork done. When I see neurologic signs- incoordination, falling over, dilated pupils, acting drunk- I worry about Ethylene Glycol (Antifreeze) toxicity. If this is the case, you have a short window to treat them. Once it hits the kidneys, it's 100% fatal.
They can run an Antifreeze test to see if that's the case. They will also likely check some organ function to rule out other potential metabolic causes of his signs.
If it's antifreeze, they can treat specifically. If it's negative, they may just monitor him and treat supportively to make sure he's ok.
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
