My cat has a large cut in her front right leg pit. She must have got in a fight with one of the other cats. It is about 1 inch long and when you flip her over and spread her leg the cut opens and you can see inside a bit. It is definitely in the meat. It looks kinda bad. It is not bleeding though. She seems fine. She is not licking at it or limping or anything. She is purring and happy. Should I take her to the vet for stitches?
Hello and thanks for trusting me to help you and your pet today. I'm a veterinarian with over 25 years experience and would be happy to work with you.

If the cut is deep enough that when you spread it open you can see the underlying tissue, she should definitely be evaluated to see if stitches are needed. In that area of the body in particular, there is a far degree more movement and that can delay healing, so having sutures placed may help it to heal better and quicker without complications. After an exam your vet will be better able to judge what is needed. At the very minimum, she may do best to have a round of oral antibiotics prescribed so infection doesn't set in.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns that I can help you with and I will be happy to respond. Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

Good. We took her in and she got a bunch of stitches and an antibiotic shot. She is doing better. She has a good appetite and has been playful! Thanks for following up.
I am glad to hear that it sounds like she is on the mend. Thank you for the follow up.
