Hi is there any antihistamines I can give my cat as she has

Resolved Question:

Hi is there any antihistamines I can give my cat as she has developed an allergy to something. It can't be flu as my other cats are fine. She is eating and urinating normally just sneezing and has a blocked nose.

Hello, I am Dr. Peter a licensed Veterinarian. I would like to help.

In response to your question, you can use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 1mg per pound body weight every 12 hours.

For the nasal congestion you can open the hot water in the bathroom and allow her to breath the vapor/steam for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day.

Hope the above helps, if you have additional questions I will be glad to answer them.

So will these at boots be ok or Piriton.

Expert:  Dr. Peter replied 6 years ago.
No, the benadryl on this site has the active ingredient Acrivastine, the one I recommend the active ingredient is "Diphenhydramine." Acrivastine is Not an antihistamine used in cats.

Piriton (Chlorpheniramine) can be used. The dose is 2-4mg every 8-12 hours.
