I was just painting a floor with Zinzer B-I-N shellac based paint to eliminate cat urine odor and while I was chasing away one of our cats from the paint 3 others apparently managed to walk into part of it. I did not know this until I saw little white footprints from one of them leading from the area. After inspecting feet I found that one of the kittens had some paint on one paw another kitten had some paint on 3 paws (Both 7 mo old lynx ragdolls) and one cat had paint on two paws (13 mo old shelter cat), The paint was mostly dry when they walked on it and I don't believe they had much on their pads but did have a small amount of dry paint present. I am assuming some of it may have been licked off This would have occurred about two to two and a half hours ago. They seem to be behaving normally; active friendly and inqusitive.
The paint can says 51 percent solids and 49 percent non solids (denatured alcohol and water) it then lists ethanol, shellac, titanium dioxide, kaolin and talc as ingredients without giving a specific breakdown on relative proportions. My guess is that the total amount on each of the respective paws may have been roughly equal to a small drop. How much of a problem do I have and what action do I need to take .

Hi there,

Welcome to Just Answer.

You are fortunate that this product is fairly safe -- and ingestion of small amounts will not be harmful. It does not absorb topically in small amounts either -- so there should be no issues.

Washing the paws with a dish soap would be most helpful.

I hope this information helps!
