Hello doctor! A week ago,for three days in a row I gave my cat Angel eyes for dog by mistake The third day she got sick vomiting and became partially paralysed. I would like to know if it could have caused it ( She seemed ok after a couple of days),
or could it be that our new puppy kept jumping on her back and her neck. We thought that was cute. We had just got the puppy a few weeks prior. He weighs 3.3 lb, and the cat weighs just over 7 lb.
She is on liquid prednisone .05 until July 3th.
Charlotte my cat is a Napoleon ( Munchskin, an persian mix breeds)
The vet told me that she has 8 bones instead of 7 on her vetebrae. She thinks the parasis could be cause by a pinch nerve.
Could it be a stroke? She seem find now.

Paralysis in a cat this age is very uncommon. Stroke activity in a cat this age is very unlikely. The cat would also not have recovered so quickly from a stroke. The Angel Eyes could cause vomiting but not neurological problems. Trauma from the puppy jumping on her would be the most likely cause. Any trauma to the head or neck can result in nerve inflammation. Prednisone penetrates the spine well to help reduce inflammation. If she has improved, the puppy should be kept away until the cat has healed fully.

Hello Dr. Scott,

I apologized that it took so long to reply to you. I would like to know, is 8 bones instead of 7 in my cat's spine considered a birth defect ?

Cat Veterinarian: Dr. Scott, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago
Cats should have 7 cervical vertebrae,13 thoracic, 7 lumbar and 3 sacral. Anything other than this is not normal.
