can I give my cat bactrim for a UTI? If so what would the dose be?

Welcome to Just Answer. I will be honest in saying that Bactrim or other sulfa drug wouldn't be my choice of drug for a possible urinary tract infection. I would say that your best option in this situation is to have him examined by your vet and have them start up the appropriate antibiotic of their choice.

so is amoxacillian different than bactrim because that is what he usually gets.
Bactrim is definitely different than Amoxicillin. Bactrim is in the sulfa drug category where amoxicillin is in the penicillin category. Bactrim is - Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole. It is not amoxicillin. Amoxicillin can be used for UTI's. A little better then it as far as spectrum of activity is clavamox - amoxicillin plus clavulonic acid. Do you have amoxicillin at home?
