I presented to The ER...
I presented to The ER with a non-specific tach with light headedness/fatigue that resolved after receiving hydration therapy. Their take-sentive to shifts in fluid imbalances. All blood tests were perfect. It appears that a lingering gastrointestinal virus and increased workout load didn't help out. Thirty day continuous heart monitor last year was completely normal with the exception of two three second intervals of self limiting tach. Will be following up with my Internist tonight to discuss better ways to avoid subtle changes in fluid imbalances. I prefer to stay away from the sugary stuff. My calcium supplement has mag oxide/citrate in it.

Hello,
Welcome to Justanswer,
Fluid imbalances more specifically potassium level abnormalities and calcium level abnormalities do tend to put one at an increased risk for arrhythmia.
Some people are more predisposed to arrhythmia than others.
Getting no major diagnosis on monitoring for a month is a good thing and puts the likenesses of a major electrical pathway abnormality in the heart at an extreme low.
Both Gastrointestinal issue and workout are important factors for fluid disturbances and so is steroid use (if being done as is seen in people looking for faster gains) when appropriate re-hydration is not done with oral re-hydration salts.
So the best approach to avoid any electrolyte abnormalities (keeping in view your being more sensitive to electrolyte abnormalities and dehydration issues) would be to keep yourself properly hydrated preferably with oral re-hydration salts instead of plain water especially under circumstances where electrolytes are more likely to be lost i.e. gastrointestinal issues or exercise.

What are the ingredients that I should look for? Will they work without sugar?
Cardiologist: Dr Mask, Doctor replied 6 years ago
The usual ORS composition (Oral Re-hydration salt)Glucose, Sodium, Potassium, chloride and citrate.
However there are ORS compositions that do not have glucose in them such as Rice based ORS and polymer based ORS. However they have been specifically designed since have shown in some studies to be more effective in cases of dehydration due to diarrhea.
Similar effort for a better effect in diarrhea has been by formulating a reduced osmolarity ORS solution (recommended by UNICEF for dehydration secondary to diarrhea). The reduced osmolarity ORS ( http://www.supply.unicef.dk/catalogue/bulletin9.htm) contains lesser quantity of glucose as well as other ingredients.
So if you are looking for an ORS with decreased Glucose content or none at all then you can find the options above.
