I have a 2014...

I have a 2014 Land Rover discovery 4 which has just had a new engine fitted. Has been driven for 1000 miles. Car ran fine for this period now it has developed uneven and lumpy running. Any ideas what could be causing this.

Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the car? Is it an automatic or a manual transmission?

130,000 auto transmission

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Discovery yourself? What have you tried so far?

Checked egr valves, had injectors tested, checked airflow meters

Hi, my name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist with this today. In some cases, I may need more info to assist better. I apologize for any delay.
I try to be here most weekdays and some weekends. If you respond and I do not respond back right away I will do so as soon as I can.

If you haven't had the engine checked over for any vacuum leaks this needs to be done. If any hoses are found to be loose or damaged or disconnected this can cause this fault here.If no visible leaks are found you may have to use a smoke machine to inject smoke into the intake to locate any hard to see leaks like the intake gaskets leaking. I have seen intake and throttle body gaskets leak in the past before causing this type of fault here and had to replace those gaskets.

It is also a good idea to have the fuel pressure tested to see if this is a low fuel pressure fault as well the engine coolant temperature sensor as this sensor can send a false engine temp signal which will also cause this issue here.

If more help is needed, use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, kindly rate my service, your 5-star rating is appreciated ( should be a link to click on here or above). You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question. I work on delivering the best answer and help here but in some cases, it can be difficult to do without seeing the vehicle.

Thanks, Pete

Smoke test has been done but nothing found. Injectors shown to be ok.

No thanks I would rather talk online
Auto Mechanic: Pete, Technician replied 2 months ago

No problem. The phone call offer is an automated offer that all customers are offered. We can continue here.

Was the coolant temp sensor checked to see if it is sending the correct signal when this occurs?

Ask Your Own Car Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
No the sensor has not been checked
Auto Mechanic: Pete, Technician replied 2 months ago

I would check the signal from the coolant temp sensor to see if it is reading properly as well as the oxygen sensors. I have seen these sensors send false signals which in turn caused rough or uneven running. In some cases, no fault codes would set. It might be a good idea to have a compression test done on the engine as well just to see if there is an internal fault with the new engine.

Let me know if you need anything else and feel free to rate my help here or above ( should be a link to click on ) as this is how I receive credit for my time, this can be done at any time and you can still come back here and reply if needed. Your 5-star rating is appreciated

Thanks Pete
