01 Silverado 5.3L secondary...

01 Silverado 5.3L secondary air system monitor won't clear/ready, can't pass smog test. Troubleshooting and testing secondary air system found all components functioning normally - cold start (coolant temp below 86*F, intake air temp within 11* of coolant temp), start engine, air pump running, solenoid opens allowing manifold vacuum to open diverter valve, air blowing through diverter valve and check valves into exhaust. I

Sorry hit enter too soon - I've ran at idle cold start 2 1/2 min's and another time 5+ min's, still secondary air monitor won't clear/ready. All other monitors ready. To your question, no trouble codes, yes I have a code scanner, watched monitors complete as I went through drive cycles to ready monitors, only secondary air won't ready...

Yes I am. Originally, when it wouldn't pass smog due to secondary air system not ready, I replaced both the air check valves to the exhaust, one was plugged, other was partial restricted, figured monitor would clear/ready after a cold start or two, no luck. I tested the parts in the sec air system (pump (operation and volume), vac solenoid (elect operation and vac open/.close), diverter valve (open/close), restriction to exhaust none. Replaced both upstream 02 sensors on advise of other, still monitor won't clear/ready after cold start or other drive cycles.

I'm investigating and learning MODE6 info, test id 03 comp id 01 & 02 for air bank 1&2 test won't complete. I'm curious what the ecm is looking for during the test (specific sensor and info needed) to complete test and ready monitor, and if other potential issues might be preventing it from completing. I don't just want to clear it, I want to understand it's operation. Research online has been limited.

What you need to do is trigger the secondary air injection pump while you pull vacuum on valves so they open, allowing you to put your hand on the tailpipe and see how much air is going into the exhaust.It's not uncommon for the secondary air passages in cylinder heads to clogged with carbon and based on the fact that you had to replace the valves because they were carbon dup, I'm pretty sure that you have carbon buildup in the heads that is causing a low-flow condition.You can actually watch the mass airflow sensor reading while running the test and see that the mass air flow sensor value drops when secondary air test turns on when engines running.I've tried really really hard to clean the carbon out of cylinder heads with failing secondary air passages before and I have never once been successful at least not long-term, I think once or twice I've gotten it long enough to pass.You might end up needing to have a Performance Engine tune put on the engine control module that defaults secondary air readiness to set.Where do you live that you have to set all the test? I'm in Washington and we only need to set 7 of 8 you must be in California?
