Customer Question
My 2008 Tribeca makes...

My 2008 Tribeca makes horrible rear-end noises when turning corners. Noises and slipping. Started suddenly on my way home last night. Differential??? Repairable??? Thanks, ***** *****

Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?

Yes and Yes

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Tribeca yourself? What have you tried so far?

No, stopped my own work years ago. Last major repair was transmission overhaul 18 months ago. Car has 180,000 miles, otherwise good shape.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Is it drivable ten miles to mechanic?

Is it when you make tight turns? Such as a parking space or driveway?

You can drive this to the mechanic. It's a problem with the transfer clutches in the transmission. The transmission won't have to be replaced, but the transfer clutches and duty solenoid should be replaced. There is a fuse slot under the hood in the fuse box labeled FWD. If you put a fuse in there and test drive it, the issue should be gone. This is how we test the transfer clutches. The transmission doesn't even have to come out of the car to do the work.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
