Second opinion] I have a 2001 VW Passat. It overheated when the heater core blew while driving. Car just SHUT DOWN, at 75 mph. Oil pressure light said No pressure. No fluids mixing,Replaced heater core and coolant. Good spark. Good fuel. Car will not start. Cranks and Cranks. Oil Pressure light kept coming on. Replaced sensor. It no longer comes on. Engine still will not start ,just cranks. Can you Please help me understand this?

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the oil? How old is your oil pump?

Oil is good levels...has a slow lower engine leak. I had just topped it off with a quart ,that day it overheated on the highway. If thepump was bad wouldn't the new sensor be reading low pressure after cranking for five minutes? Its not any more....Timing belts are tight marks are in sync.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Passat yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes , I'm low on funds. I am stumped. ive checked plugs for moisture. none on either bank of plugs. No coolant in oil,.Spark while cranking is pulsing steady. Fuel on plugs after cranking,i pulled one on each side of motor. all fuses are good(40+) checked them all.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Just that I had fuel pump replaced and I know VW Electrical systems are sketchy. the car has run excellently. Oh I also replaced the plugs after an exhaust repair . they were pretty burnt from driving for 3 months with a leak before the Ypipe,I had it welded ,repaired a month ago. It just got hot completely lost power and now wont fire up.Thank you!

Hi, at this point I would suspect you may have lost compression. First thing I would do is rent or borrow a compression tester (a lot of auto parts stores will let you borrow one with a refundable deposit). Look for nor more than 10% difference between the highest and lowest cylinders and you should see over 100 psi on all. (More likely around 150, but it should still start with 100). If compression looks good you will need to get the codes scanned to see if there may be a melted sensor or wiring that may be causing your no start.
