I have a 1999 Mercedes Benz A160. Two orange lights have come on, BAS/ ESP and ABS.

I am not too sure why these lights have come on, Does it mean that the engine needs more oil, took to to the garage, two weeks before Xmas for a check over, only one headlight to be replaced.

no, it does not mean the engine needs more oil.

these lights mean that the abs, brake assist and traction control systems are all offline due to a faulty in the system.

most commonly a wheel speed sensor or the control module for the system fails, but you will need to have the vehicle scanned to verify what the underlying trigger of these lights is.

the only way to determine the underlying fault is by having the car scanned. Whatever component is determined to be faulty based on the scan will then need to be replaced.

please drive carefully as you do not have abs, brake assist or traction control at present.
