compressor for a customer today...
I am a tech but am newish to ac systems. I installed a compressor for a customer today. His old one was having a problem with the clutch staying engaged. After installing it I vacuumed the system and added 2 ounces of pag oil. Then charged to the amount specified on the car. The high side pressure ended up going up to 450 and the compressor would cycle on and off I tried vacuuming and charging with a Lowe amount and had the same issue. From what I read I am looking at a possible condenser dryer and expansion valve issue. Is that correct and is there any way to confirm the issue or any other possible culprits?

Most likely the expansion valve is what is causing the high head but I would go ahead and replace both.

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer 130k miles. A/c stopped working. I
A/c stopped working. I replaced the expansion valve, didn't help. I noticed the high side pressure was too high so I replaced the condenser, vacuumed the system, and recharged. Now the a/c works, hi and Lo pressures seem right, blows cold, but the compressor clutch cycles every 10 seconds. Clutch engages for 6-10 sec, disengaged for 6-10 seconds at idle. It's even worse when driving, when I apply gas, it cycles every 4-5 seconds. I found out that it's the evaporator temperature sensor (thermo probe) that keeps disengaging the clutch at 32F degrees. According to the car's specs, when the temp sensor sees 32F, it tells the ecu to disengage the comp. clutch, which is exactly what it's doing. Why is the evap getting so cold? Temp out the vents is 40F. But the clutch is cycling too frequently (every 5 seconds when driving). I understand the temp sensor is disengaging the clutch so the evap doesn't freeze over, but the cycle time is way too frequent. Why? … read more
