2007 Dodge Magnum gear shift is stuck in park. Mechanic

This answer was rated:

2007 Dodge Magnum gear shift is stuck in park. Mechanic states shift solenoid is bad and the entire shift mechanism will have to be replaced because the shift solenoid cannot be purchased as a single component.
JA: Do you have brake lights? Have any trouble codes popped up?
Customer: I didn’t check the brake lights or run my own diagnostics.
JA: Are you fixing your Magnum yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: No, I am not fixing the vehicle myself. I’m trying to verify the information from the mechanic who has my car.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Hi Im David, if you are sitting in the car and turn the key on, step on the brake pedal, if you dont hear a click down by the shift lever then the solenoid isnt working and the entire assembly will need replaced.

just checking in to see how its going

I had the entire shift assembly replaced this past Thursday 15 June.
A NAPA Auto Parts Store attendant tells me only the solenoid can be replaced without the replacing the entire assembly.
I would have had to bring in the damaged solenoid to be matched.

did the assembly fix the issue?

the reason we advise the entire assembly is because aftermarket solenoids tend not to fix correctly.

the issue was corrected.
