Customer Question

Second opinion] I have an 08 acadia...out of nowhere I am driving and the low oil level light comes on I am less than a 1/4 mi from home so I pull over and shut off the engine waiting a few minutes and started it up and light was off I am now 1/8mi from home and the god awfullest knocking noise started I pull in the driveway and shut it off. I go back out 30 minutes later after the enigine had cooled and it is almost bone dry of oil...I put 3 quarts and some lucas oil treatment and it still has a knock its not so bad when idling but when you rev it up it is terrible
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: it doesn't sound like a deep motor knock and it never knocked until this happened and I haven't drove it since this happened I am afraid to cause any serious damage if it hasn't already happened
JA: Are you fixing your Acadia yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am planning to fix it myself.. I haven't tried anything yet really I have been researching all the possible outcomes
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: there is no check engine lights or anythingIt is definitely knocking on the top passenger side

Hi, I'm Ron and I will be helping you today.
Stand by for a moment while I prepare your answer.

Expert:  rpmdiag replied 9 months ago.

At this point, it doesn't matter where the noise is coming from. If you really need to know before you put in the new motor, you can tear it down and do an engine inspection of the bearings.

Thanks, Ron

Our goal here is to assist you in the repair of your vehicle by
supplying you with well educated information. We may not always
have the exact fix you wanted to hear, but our job is to get you on
the right track, which we always do. We can’t hear, see, smell or
touch your vehicle from where we’re at, so your understanding of
that is greatly appreciated. There are no magical or miraculous
answers, but we do our best to guide you in the right direction.
Thanks, Ron
