crank no-start 1986 vw vanagon gl
JA: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?
Customer: battery reads at 12.18. the lights are always dim but they still turn on
JA: Are you fixing your Vanagon yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: working on it myself, yes. examined distributor cap and wire set, replaced fuel pump relay, examined and cleaned battery terminals and frame to tranny ground. banged on starter while helper cranked engine also.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Hi there.

Most no-start conditions on these vehicles are due to lack of fuel. Try spraying starting fluid in the air filter assembly. If the engine starts and runs momentarily, check for power and ground at the fuel pump. If OK, replace fuel pump.

Please let me know if this helps solve your issue, or if more assistance is needed.
