I have a 1954 Packard with a six volt positive ground

Customer Question

I have a 1954 Packard with a six volt positive ground system. I have replaced the generator with a six volt one wire positive ground alternator. The car starts well when cold but when driving for ten or so miles the battery will not turn over the engine. After the car sits for a while the battery will spin the engine ( slow RPM ) but just enough to start the car. The specs say the car draws around 6 1/2 too seven volts. The alternator is putting out 7 .8 volts at idle. Have a new starter ( rebuilt) etc. two in fact and try both at the suggestion of a friend. Battery ??? Only a year old.
