Trying to jump start, but when I turn the key, it does not

Customer Question

trying to jump start, but when I turn the key, it does not crank. Acts as if it has no battery at all --just dead.
JA: Did you test the battery with a voltmeter? And have you ever changed one before?
Customer: don't have one, sorry
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 2002 Infiniti qx4
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: tightened bat cables, hooked up jump cables, now letting donor car charge the battery
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: this happened 2 wks ago and the jump start worked. Battery is about 1 yr old

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. I’m Ron and I’ll be helping you today.
Before we get started though, Please understand that I don't know
your skill level or tools you have to assist us. Also understand that
I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle either, so patience is
appreciated. JA is a great Q/A site, but it does NOT replace a
repair shop.
My goal is to make you happy and get a great rating in return for
my time. Sometimes I have to give you bad news that I know you
didn’t want to hear, so please don’t shoot the messenger.

We also need to check the battery cables at bot ends for tightness and corrosion. Be sure that the battery is fully charged and passes a load test. Next thing is to check the starter. If all these are good, then we need to check the ignition switch.

Thanks, Ron

Sorry, don't have the means to check the starter & switch, etc., so will have to cancel out.

Cancel out what? I gave you valid and truthful information, it shouldn't be held against me or my rating if you can't carry out the recommendations.

Thanks, ***** ***** don't forget to rate me and keep this link in case you need me again later on.
