Customer Question

Car is making a noise coming from the rear that sounds like a chain being dragged behind the car, but there is no chain. It is intermittent. Mostly happens when coasting over 40 mph.

Hello. Welcome to Just Answer. Please allow me to assist you. Without hearing the noise, it would be very difficult to pinpoint the issue exactly, but, here are a few possibilities that I have encountered that you might want to get looked at:

1) Loose muffler retention

2) rust buildup in the rear brake area

3) Loose brake parts on the rear wheels

4) loose filler panel behind the read bumper

A chain-type noise would most likely be a metal part that is loose, ie the exhaust or a rear brake retaining bolt.
