MB 240d 83, water temp gauge. Replaced radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses. Driving the car the needle will stay about 3/4 on the scale, but driving on the interstate it will go to 120. When slowing down the needle will come right back. No sign of overheating???
It is possible that you have a blown head gasket if there is a small crack in the gasket the car will run hot when driving and stop when you slow down i would have a compression check done on the motor to make sure
