Driving moderate speed, engine reves up without pressure from driver on accellerator.
Sometimes driver can punch the accellerator pedal and restore proper control.

There just might be some type of Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) or Safety Recall that would address this problem and prescribe a "fix". Or this might be a problem that I have seen before, where I could tell you from 38 years of personal experience in the automotive repair field. However, it is impossible to find out, because you have not provided information to let anyone know what kind of car you are talking about....YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, ENGINE SIZE, TRANSMISSION TYPE, etc..
