do you have a long flat head screwdriver or possibly access to a stethoscope ?

with the belt off it now and spinning the tensioner pulley by hand or any of the other pulleys do any feel loose or feel like they are binding or feel like there is dirt or slight grinding felt in any of them ?

will check this weekend was just talking with my friend who owns it today, just want to make sure before we order parts, range rovers are not cheap, being that this thing has a liquid cooled alternator(850.00 rebuilt),I did have the belts off before, did notice that the noise went away when I reinstalled the belts, but the noise returned a couple of days later, also did check the pulleys did find some play both tensioner pulleys for both the primary(alt, power steering water pump)and secondary(A/C compressor, and water pump).I thought the play was from the tensioner being loose, prehaps I didn't see it when I checked them, will recheck them
