S10 1996 disconect negitive cable replaced starter connect neg. cable starter runswith ththe key off??
Hello, I am Randall.

can you tell me how many small studs were on the solenoid where the small purple wire goes? not the big red wire , the small purple one.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

odd, some reman starters will have 2 terminals and you use one of the 2 so.. tell me how you connected the wires at the starter, each of them and to what posts
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

positive wire the large bolt small wire to the small stud

are you sure the large wire is on the stud furthest from starter motor body. if so, have you looked to be sure that wire is not put on where it is contacting another post. It is possible to do this

if this was not the original problem. then a wire is touching or on wrong spot..

If all ok, do you have a testlight, ?

I will submit as answer in case you find problem with wires at starter. If the big wire is barely touching another post, it will crank each time you hook up battery

You did not say why starter was changed so going off info provided

let me know. Thanks
