help changing an ignitionswitch on a 1988 k2500..old one..bolted

Resolved Question:

help changing an ignitionswitch on a 1988 k2500 with tilt switch looks like the old one; but can't get the rod in and bolted up; seems like the rod is too long..

Do you have the key in the "lock" position?

And the switch in the "lock" position?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
The instructions on the switch say to put the key in the accessory position; and the switch in the accessory position; but in order to start the vehicle; the rod would have to push the switch ahead; and the rod pulls back when you turn the key

Both the key and the switch have to be in the LOCK position before installing it. I have never seen one that is installed in the ACC position,,,must be a typo error on their part. Below is right out of the service manual.
