1994 plymouth sundance, auto trans, the shifter has a thumb button

1994 Plymouth Sundance, auto trans, the shifter has a thumb button on the top of the shifter that has to be depressed to move the shifter out of park and back into park. The button is continously depressed like something is broken. It seem to be effecting the ignition in that the key can not be removed. The car will start and drive fine.

The ignition switch has a lock, which prevents key getting out, if Park is not selected....i will post a diagram of the switch (the back of it):

I would think that the shift interlock cable has snapped, or is stuck....

either way, you have to remove, inspect, replace if necessary or just spray some WD40 on the mechanism
