i have a 1998 daihatsu terios... it has been over heating after driving for approx 40min, but not while driving. when i stop at traffic lights the temerature creeps up and the car starts to shudder and the oil light flickers.. when i stop and check the over flow chamber is full ( way past the full line and is boiling, the oil is showing full.
the thermostat has been replaced and the radiator has been taken out and flushed and checked for blockages but is clear.. the mechanic has tried replacing the viscouse couplin fan but the problem remains..

I think that you could have a headgasket problem .

When driving on the open road without stopping will the engine overheat?

<p>they have told me that there is no water in the oil and that they have pressure tested the head.</p><p>i took the car out yesterday and this happened after 40 min, after cooling down i drove i similar conditions for 20 min to get home and it did not happen again.</p><p>the mechanic claims to have had the car running for over an hour without any sign of over heating</p><p>as long as the car is running in smooth traffic (no stop starting) it does not over heat.</p><p>it only over heats at traffic lights, in road works or in te line at drive through food outlets etc</p>
