1998 oldsmobile silhouette: head gaskets..l..the alter,water pump

im doing both head gaskets on a 1998 oldsmobile silhouette 3.4 l. in what order do i disasemble the alter,water pump etc....... any help would be great!

IGN coil

Upper intake,

Alternator,

Alternator bracket

EGR

coolant tube

front brackets

lower intake and power steering pump

cross over pipe and down pipe for the exhaust.

oil dipstick tube

heads.

The exhaust manifolds can stay on and the front cover and water pump do not require removal for this job.

yeah, what about the motor mounts,the front left is where im stuck, its what around the exhaust manifold.looked like it needs off. and do i raise or lower the engine/body??? its soooo tight in there. especialy the rear head. um thanks.

Yes, you remove the front motor mounts.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system.
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  6. Remove the lower intake manifold.
  7. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods.
  8. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  9. Remove the right engine mount strut bracket.
  10. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  11. Remove the engine left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  12. Remove the engine left side spark plugs.
  13. Remove the engine left side exhaust manifold.

  15. Remove and discard the engine left side cylinder head bolts.
  16. Remove the engine left side cylinder head.

  17. Remove the engine left side cylinder head gasket.
  18. Clean the following areas:
    The gasket sealing surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block, and intake manifolds.
    The cylinder block bolt threads.
  19. Clean and inspect the cylinder head.

    Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 190594  Size: SH

  1. Install a new engine left side cylinder head gasket.

  2. Install the engine left side cylinder head over the locator pins and over the gasket.

    Notice: This component uses torque-to-yield bolts. When servicing this component do not reuse the bolts, New torque-to-yield bolts must be installed. Reusing used torque-to-yield bolts will not provide proper bolt torque and clamp load. Failure to install NEW torque-to-yield bolts may lead to engine damage.

  3. Tighten the engine left side cylinder head bolts in sequence (1-8).

    Tighten

    Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence (1-8) to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
    Use the J 36660-A in order to turn the bolts in sequence (1-8) an additional 95 degrees.

  4. Install the engine left side exhaust manifold.
  5. Install the engine left side spark plugs.
  6. Install the engine left side spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  7. Install the oil level indicator tube.
  8. Install the right engine mount strut bracket.
  9. Install the exhaust crossover pipe.
  10. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods.
  11. Install the lower intake manifold.
  12. Install the upper intake manifold.
  13. Fill the engine with new engine oil.
  14. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant.
