2004 mazda: randomly..overdrive..check engine light drives

Resolved Question:

i have a 2004 mazda six with a strange problem (or so i think)
every so often and randomly the AT lite comes on and the car won"t shift into overdrive or manual mode . also the check engine light comees on.
But when I put it into park once or twice the AT lite comes off and it drives normally.
then after I turn the car off and on like 4 times the check engine lite clears.
Is this possibly a major problem. my buddy has a scanner i forget the code number
but it was the input turbine speed sensor. Money is real tight right now , is there a way i can fix this myself

you might pull the sensor and check for metal. Sometimes small particals stick to the sensor and can cause codes and shifting issues. That is why doing trans flushes work so good on most modern cars. Doesn't sound like there is a slip issue and I have seen flushes cure valve body and converter issues.

good luck
