5 wagon: power steering fluid and is whining as if it is low..overflow

Resolved Question:

Just purchased a 1999 9-5 wagon. When I got it home it was spitting out power steering fluid and is whining as if it is low on fluid. What causes this to overflow?

it probably wasnt overflowing it may have a powersteering leak,, there is nothing that would make it overflow, is that what you saw it do? or was it just empty when you checked it?

Yes, when i opened the hood it came shooting out of the cap clear across the engine. Just drove it about 30 miles and it still whines but leaking out of cap is much less

try changing the cap, the seal inside could be faulty or not creating a tight enough seal, top it off with fluid, have a friend help you, top it off and with the cap off, turn the wheel back and forth a few times, to release any air that may be in the system, get a new cap or make sure it is tight,
