have a 99 madza 626, v6. trying to get the crankshaft pully

have a 99 madza 626, v6. trying to get the crankshaft pully off and having the worse time. Is there something I might be missing. Need to do this to replace a water pump. Is the nut holding the pully on left or right.

That bolt is regular righthand thread, so turn it counterclockwise to loosen it. It is on a 122ft lbs, plus if its been on there for a few years it has corrosion buildup as well which will make the effective torque at over 200ft lbs.


You need to soak the bolt with PB Blast(100x more effective than WD40) and allow to soak for an hour. Use a strap wrench(shown below) to keep crankshft from turning, and use a long breaker bar and socket to break the bolt loose:
