You engage the clutch / gear theres a fairly loud clunk..gearbox

Resolved Question:

have a 2000 Freelander thats just had a new clutch installed. Now, when you engage the clutch / gear theres a fairly loud clunk from the rear. almost like some sort of take up somewhere or slowness (EG a Harley davidson gearbox) any ideas?

you hit it right on the head , it is very similar to the ha/da clunk

the new clutch has a little drag and it will give you a clunk untill you get it worn in.

OK Sean. Sounds feasible. The clutch was "totalled" in the end and slipped for some time. Is it possible that the more direct engagement now might be highlighting any movement in any bushes somewhere? Diff bush? for example?
