the light does not come on for an oil change, unless it syas specifically to change the oil. the light is on because the ECU detected a fault somewhere. it could be a one time issue, if so then remove battery cables and hook them back up after 5 minutes. this resets the computer. if the light comes back or does not go out after this then go to a parts store like advance, shucks, pep boys, autozone... they will scan the computer for free and tell you what code tripped the light. it could be a dirty sensor, a bad sensor, plugged fuel injector, misfire... there are many things than can cause it, having it scanned if the light comes back will tell you why. when yu unhook battery cables, just do one, the positive. and dont let it touch anything while you are waiting for the light to reset. just unhook it for 5 minutes then hook it back up and start the car. again if light comes onm then have the ECU scanned by one of the afore mentioned parts stores.

I took to autozone no codes came up

they probably didnt have it done correctly or used the wrong cards in the scanner, or simply the wrong scanner. some imports will not work with all scanners. if they couldnt do it try another one, then try a shop. it is not on because of oil or anything like that, it is because of a fault the ECU detected, or the ECU has gone bad. it needs to be scanned again, theres nothing you can try without knowing..... unless there are driveability symptoms you can give me...

while starting the car the maint req'd light would8 blink about 8 times before going out. then this past tuesday it stayed on for good
Expert:  oliver replied 8 years ago.
this does not mean anything certain, only that there is a problem.. the blinks refer to an individual system, which would still need scanned, or they are just flashes from a faulty ECU. you need to get it scanned...    are you having issues with driveability or anything else?

The maintence light has to be reset when the oil is changed it is driven by the odometer and has no way of telling if the oil has been changed. heres the reset procedure .
