2005 GMC: V8..engine light came..a new gas cap and have driven it

Resolved Question:

I have 2005 GMC 1500 truck w/4.8 V8. The engine light came on and I went by parts store and they put there code raeder on it and it gave PO449 EVAP EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM VENT VLV/SOL MALF. I have installed a new gas cap and have driven it 6 different times and light still on. Can I fix this myself or do I need to take it to the shop?

The problem is going to be the evap vent valve, which is on the side of the fuel tank. You can repair this your self. Your local auto store should carry the part. After repairing the vent valve, you can take it back to the auto store and they should be able to clear the code.

The evap vent valve is number 2 in the above diagram.
