91 talon tsi awd turbo. engine wont start..check starter

Resolved Question:

i have a 91 talon tsi awd turbo. engine won't start, not even turning over. check starter that is good. thought it might be the ignition switch. it is good ,tumbles are good. it is a five speed manuel. not sure what it could be. just bought the car it was hard to start to begin with engine turned over slowly and you hard to turn the key back and forth. i thought there was a wire for the clutchbut not sure where it is. any suggestions on what could be wrong thank jason

First you need to check the wiring at the starter...using a DC volt meter, test the large cable from the battery/alternator connection and make sure you have battery voltage(12.6 volts average)
Next test the small solonoid wire for battery voltage while cranking(may need a helper to hold in crank position while you test wire)...
Less than battery voltage at either or both of these wires indicates a poor connection...Also, remove both battery cable connections and thoroughly clean terminals and battery posts...this will eliminate any oxidation or corrosion that can cause a voltage drop or high resistance during load while cranking....Finally, if the vehicle has a clutch safety switch,it will be located under the dash on the pedal support...just jump across the switch to eliminate it as one of your problems...jeffrey590
