96 Ford Explorer: disable..alarm system..kill switch..activated

Customer Question

How can I either reset or disable the alarm system for a 96 Ford Explorer? Normally, I turn the key in the ignition but this time there is no response whatsoever which I think means the kill switch has been activated.

Unlock Doors with Remote,Door Key or Turn Ignition On will Dis Arm Factory Alarm.

Be sure the Battery is fully charged.
Lock & close all doors & hood.
Leave vehicle undisturbed for apprx 30 minutes
After apprx 30 minutes, Unlock Door & start vehicle.

You can also DisArm / Disable the Factory Alarm by:
Find the Dark GREEN / PURPLE wire located in the 55 Pin connector at the Driver Kick Panel / Door harness.
Connect one end of a piece of wire to the Dark GREEN / PURPLE wire.
Connect the other end of the piece of wire to Ground (chassis).
This will DisArm Alarm until the wire is removed.

If you have both Factory & Aftermarket Alarm (sounds like it), then try this to reset:

Be sure battery is fully charged
Disconnect Positive Batery Cable.
Open Driver Door & LEAVE open.
Turn Ignition switch to On position & LEAVE On
Reconnect Positive battery Cable.
Horn & / or Aftermarket Siren may sound for a few seconds.
Start vehicle

Just a quick follow-up. The fuse trick won't work? If it is a 3rd party as well, do I have to track down all the wires from it and pull them too?
Expert:  Lurch replied 8 years ago.

If you are refering to the disconnection of the Battery......
NO, pulling fuse will not accomplish the same reset.

Please explain why you want to track down the wires for the Aftermarket Alarm..........
Unless you are wanting to remove it.
If you have a Brand Name, please post it also
